Joseph Vigil Velasquez of Brighton placed third in the state competition of the Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge.

He finished first in the local competition in Brighton and the section competition in Commerce City. That earned him a spot at the state event at Metropolitan State College in Denver.

“We’re very proud to have a player advance from our local competition and do so well in state,” Brighton youth sports coordinator John Krumpholz said.
