An Adams County judge reduced bond for one of two suspects charged in the death of their daughter earlier this year.
Bond for Alonzo Ray Montoya, 31, was set at $175,000. Nicole Casias' bond remained at $100,000. As of April 5, both were in the Adams County Jail. Each faces a count of child abuse resulting in death and a count dostribution of a controlled substance, in this case, fentanis yl.
Casias' preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Friday, April 29. Montoya's next bond hearing is Tuesday, April 19. His preliminary hearing is set for early June.
A statement from the DA's office said the Adams County coroner determined the child died after ingesting fentanyl. The blood content postmortem contained 10 times the amount of fentanyl necessary to kill an intolerant adult user, the statement said.
The statement also said the two suspects allegedly participated in illicit drug activity while the child was present in the home before and after her death.
Earlier this year, five people died in Commerce City after ingesting the drug.
