Twila Mae McEntire, 89, of Brighton, died January 18, 2010, of complications from a stroke.
She was born July 20, 1920, to Ida Stever and Robert Nelson in Halstead, Kan. Twila had two, half-brothers and a half-sister from her mother’s previous marriage.
She met Ray McEntire at the age of 18 as she worked at the Hand Hotel in Fairplay. They married in Fairplay in 1941.
The family settled in Keenesburg, where they bought a drugstore. They later opened a drugstore in Brighton, and the family moved there in 1958. Twila and Ray ran the drugstore at 11th and Bridge until 1974 when they sold it to another pharmacist. Twila continued to live in Brighton until her death. She was active in Eastern Star Brighton, holding numerous offices and she served as mother advisor to the Rainbow Assembly.
Survivors included her daughters, Jerrilyn McEntire and Ann (Mike) Irsik; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service is at 10 a.m., Jan. 22, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton, followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Brighton.
