BRIGHTON — Cold and snowy weather has put the state Highway 7 bridge replacement project over the South Platte River about a month behind schedule.
CDOT spokeswoman Mindy Crane said Monday that the project was originally expected to be completed in April but is now tabbed for a May finish.
Motorists who have dealt with the construction and its occasional delays since June saw a major change over the weekend. After a weekend closure, traffic has now been shifted on to a portion of the new bridge. Crane said the new bridge is being built in two phases. The first phase was for contractor Zak Dirt to construct two- thirds of the new span. The second phase involves demolition of the existing bridge and construction of the final portion of the new bridge.
The bridge replacement cost is expected to cost about $3.6 million.
