School District 27J retiree picnic this weekend
The Brighton 27J School District is hosting a Retiree Reunion Picnic July 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Retirees are invited to spend the day catching up with former colleagues and friends and find out what’s new in the district. The picnic is a potluck. Grills will be available at the shelters. A memory table set up at the event will have items dating back to 1925. Local students named to Dean’s list, Honor Roll at UNC
Greeley – A number of local students have been named to the dean’s list or the dean’s honor roll in recognition of their outstanding scholarship for the 2009-10 academic year at the University of Northern Colorado.
To qualify for the dean’s list, students must have a 3.75 or higher grade point average and to qualify for the dean’s honor roll, students must have earned a 3.50 to 3.74 grade point average. Students must have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours and have achieved required GPA for two out of three semesters of the year.

Preschool enrollment
First Presbyterian Children’s Center in Brighton is accepting applications for the 2010-2011 preschool program. Spots are limited. Register by calling 303-659-6632.
High schools’ registration dates set
A four-day period starting Aug. 3 has been set aside for high school registrations at both Prairie View and Brighton high schools.
The schedule and times (8 to 11 a.m.) are the same for each school. Seniors sign up Aug. 3. Juniors can register Aug. 4. Tenth-graders get their turn Aug. 5, followed by freshmen Aug. 6.
Brighton High School’s first day of classes is Aug. 11. It’s for ninth-graders and lasts from 7:25 to 11:25 a.m. Prairie View’s first day is Aug. 12, and it’s for freshmen as well. Call 303-655-8800 or 303-655-4200.
27J offers free summer food service
School District 27J is hosting free breakfast and lunch this summer at two locations. The district’s summer food-service program will be offered at North Elementary, 89 N. Sixth Ave., and Northeast Elementary, 1605 Longspeak St., through July 23. All children from 1-year-old through age 18 can participate in the free meal program and are encouraged to do so. Those over 18 can buy a meal for $1.25 at breakfast and $2.75 at lunch. Breakfast is served from 8 to 9 a.m., and lunch is available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The United States Department of Agriculture provides the funding for the meal program.
Bus routes for 2010-2011 to be announced this month
District 27J School bus route information for next year will be available in the latter half of July. Cards will be mailed to everyone who is eligible to ride by the end of July. These cards will have all of the student route information on them, according to Sandy Martinez, 27J transportation router.
