Ruby K. Wegner

Ruby K. Wegner, 82, of Brighton, went to be with her Lord July 26, 2010.

    Ruby was born June 28, 1928, in Norfolk, Neb., to William H. and Hedwig Wegner. She was baptized, attended eight years of parochial school and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Neb. Her father died in 1937 after which she, her mother and two younger sisters moved from a large farm to acreage in Battle Creek.

    She attended Battle Creek High School for three years. In 1944 the family moved to Brighton. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1946.

Her first employment was with the Gaunt and Byrne law firm and Dr. John Thimmig. She then worked as a secretary at the Kuner Empson Canning Co., after which she began her career as a secretary to the superintendent of schools for School District 27J. She held the position for 39 years.

    Ruby was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving her Lord in many ways. She loved to sing the praises of her Lord and was an active choir member from 1944 through 2009. Ruby lived her faith by being a loving and caring person, doing kind things for others. She was very much involved in telling neighbor children about Jesus through a childrens summer Bible School called Happy Club.

    Ruby was preceded in death by her father and mother; and an infant brother.

    She is survived by two sisters, Wilma (Dean) Mohling, of Exter, Mo., and Eunice (Richard) Zander, of Vancouver, Wash.; five nephews; and two nieces.

    A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., July 31, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1400 Skeel St., Brighton. Interment will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Lutheran Home of Colorado, 5630 S. Curtice St., Littleton, CO 80120. Tabor-Rice Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
