Robert Martin Smith

Robert Martin Smith, 79, formerly of Brighton, died Dec. 28, 2009, after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s, at Palisade Living Center in Palisade, Colo.

    He was born Oct. 17, 1930, to Ferris and Clarice Smith in Dodge City, Kan. He spent his youth in Ford, Kan., and the majority of his adult life in Colorado. He resided in Brighton for many years while his daughters attended school.  He owned and operated Creative Carpets before moving to the Grand Junction area.

    Survivors include his wife, Colleen Smith; his four daughters, Leann (Ken) Klabon, of Mission, Texas, Jewell (Matthew) Buck, of Grand Junction, Cristy (Steve) Cutler, of Monument, and Karen Redden, of Gunnison; his twin brother, Bill (Karen) Smith of Dodge City; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

    He was preceded in death by a grandson.

    A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Ford.

    Memorial contributions may be made toward the Alzheimer Foundation.
