Polly A. Nelms, 77, of Brighton, passed away September 3, 2010.
She was born Aug. 11, 1933, to Lake and Ora Huffman in West Virginia. She married Jim Nelms July 13, 1951, in Pikeville Ky. Jim and Polly moved to Brighton in 1955 and made this their home. They raised their family in Brighton and became active in the Brighton community for many years to come.
Polly was very talented and enjoyed painting, crafts, cooking, and making her famous peanut brittle. She also liked a good game of bridge and Yahtzee with friends and an occasional trip to Black Hawk. She dedicated her time making crafts with friends that are displayed every Christmas for the city building and the recreation center Christmas trees in Brighton. She was an active volunteer with the Adams County Historical Society, decorating their trees at Christmas and helping with the craft shows.
Polly is survived by her children, Alan (Ann) Nelms, of Pueblo, Joel (Pat) Nelms, of Brighton, Randy (Yukiko) Nelms, of Japan, Amy (Mike) Milos, of Littleton; sister Virginia Ham, of Florida; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Lake Huffman.
Polly was a sweet person loved by family and friends. We cherish the memories she made for us, and her love and laughter. She was the foundation for the family that held us all together. We will honor her example of a strong brave woman who dedicated her life and love to her family and friends.
Memorial service is at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 10, at 9:30 a.m. at the Tabor-Rice Funeral Home, 75 S. 13th Ave., Brighton. Interment will follow at 12:15 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
