Brighton City Council hosts ward barbecues

    The Brighton City Council will host barbecues for each neighborhood ward starting this month. Residents are encouraged to attend their specific ward barbecue to meet city council members, share any questions or concerns and receive information on projects taking place in their neighborhood and throughout the city. In addition, city departments and community groups will be present to provide information on local projects. This is a free, fun and informative event. Residents can view ward maps at www.brightonco.gov to see which ward they live in.

    Barbecues will take place:

Ward 1 – Thursday, July 15, at 6 p.m., Donelson Park, 4500 Midland St.eeCouncil Member Chris Maslanik

Ward 2 – Thursday, July 22, at 6 p.m., Montoya Park 221 N. Ninth Ave.eeCouncil Members Cynthia Martinez and Rex Bell

Ward 3 – Thursday, July 29, at 6 p.m., Colorado Park 265 Miller St.eeCouncil Members Wayne Scott and Rob Farina

Ward 4 – Thursday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m., Dewey Strong Park, 468 LongspureeCouncil Members Daryl Meyers and Wilma Rose

    Residents can view ward maps at www.brightonco.gov to see which ward they live in.

Name the city’s aquatic park

    The city of Brighton is seeking the perfect name for its new outdoor family aquatic park set to open next in 2011 near 17th Avenue and Bromley Lane, and the public can help.

    Naming suggestions can be submitted by filling out a form on the city’s website (www.brightonco.gov) or by visiting the parks and recreation department office, 1901 E. Bridge St. The deadline for entries is Sept. 30, and there is no limit to how many entries a person can submit. The top five names suggested will be requested to complete a park naming petition according to the city’s naming policy, which can be found on the city website.

    Submissions can also be sent to dsecord@brightonco.gov with “Park Name Contest” in the subject line, by fax at 303-655-2131 or by mail at Parks and Recreation Office, 1901 E. Bridge St., Brighton, CO, 80601.

    The winner will be chosen at the Dec. 7 city council meeting.

    

Pedal boat rentals now available at Barr Lake State Park

    BRIGHTON - Experience Barr Lake in a whole new way by renting one of the park’s new pedal boats. The pedal boats are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weather permitting. The cost to rent a pedal boat is $9 per hour (one hour minimum), $30 for a half-day (four hours) or $60 for a full day (eight hours). Interested parties may sign up at the Barr Lake Nature Center. The three boats were recently donated to the park by the Friends of Barr Lake.
