Merich takes two titles at Fort Morgan track meet

FORT MORGAN – Brighton’s Richard Merich was a double winner in the Fort Morgan Invitational track meet March 13.

    He won the 100-meter dash with a time was 11.22 seconds. Merich followed suit in the 200-meters, where his time was 23.09, 0.39 of a second ahead of Greeley West’s Tre Howard.

    That wasn’t the end of Brighton’s first-place efforts. The 4-by-400-meter relay team of Matt Randall, Merich, Jesse Landeros and Ryan Delay teamed up to take the top spot in a time of 3:41.46.

    Lucian York of Brighton took second place in the long jump with a best of 20 feet 5 inches. In the shot put, Jeremy Cook of Brighton finished second with a best toss of 43-11 ½.

Brighton’s Andre Gutierrez was seventh in the 200-meters, clocking a time of 11.89. Gutierrez also took fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.93.

    Randall placed third in the 110-meter hurdles, posting a time of 17.21. Delay took sixth in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 55.33.  Landeros was fifth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:10.74.

    In the 4-by-200 relay, Gutierrez, Malek Mathews, Delay and Chayce Weaver finished third with a time of 1:37.08. BHS recorded another third-place finish in the 4-by-800 relay. The foursome of Jacob Johnson, Campbell Kruse, Michael Johnson and Joe Makepeace finished the race in a time of 9:10.97.

    On the girls side, Brighton’s Kayla Mescher won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17:03 and was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.89. She tied for fourth in the high jump with a best leap of 4-10 ½.

    Cecilia DeSouza took fifth in the 200-meters for Brighton. Her time was 27.56. Summer Mine was sixth after a time of 27.59. Korina Lillard was eighth in the triple jump with a best effort of 29-9 ¾.

    The relay team of Misty Sauve, DeSouza, Minne and Tessa Norcross was second in the 4-by-200-meter relay with a time of 1:52.96. The 4-by-800-meter relay quartet of Kristen Martinez, Dani Morris, and Lilly and Emory Prochada finished in a time of 11:34.66, good for fifth place.
