Loss of Pan Dragons goes beyond school

Posted

Editor,

I would like to thank the Brighton Blade for the front-page stories that should cause us to be frustrated and sad with the state of things in Colorado and the United States. The loss of the Pan Dragons will affect not only Brighton Heritage Academy but the entire Brighton community.

First, let me say that the music programs in schools are not extracurricular. They are cocurricular. They are part of the total education process. The fact that Pan Dragons is also a great school and community asset is an extra benefit.

I like sports as much as any normal person, but sports are extracurricular. Sports are great headline grabbers and should be part of the offering but not take the place of a complete education. People should not lose their land because big business will not take responsibility for their mistakes. People should not lose their homes because someone wants the property. Money should not be the sole factor in determining the value of any program or individual’s worth.
