Lopez calls BSA players for a spring reunion

BRIGHTON – If you played in the Brighton Softball Association many years ago, Ray Flores wants to hear from you.
He’s trying to organize a spring reunion of association players. Some of its alumni include former Mayor Jan Pawlowski, her husband, Norm, and Bob Besaw. Some of the former team names were “The Outlaws,” “Platte Valley,” “Tail Feathers,” “Bait and Bullet,” “Hottmans,” and “Formby’s.”
Flores, who wasn’t part of the BSA, said there’s no interest in forming a new league.
“We want only to see old friends and reminisce while we play a game we all enjoyed so many years ago at the old ball fields in Brighton,” Flores said.
The idea came from attending a funeral.
“We lost a good friend a few years back. At his funeral, we all said we would have to get together for a barbecue. But this has never happened,” Flores said. “I’ve talked with some people and ask what they thought about this idea of getting a barbecue together. We all know guys and girls from teams we competed with that are interested.”
The hope is to pull this off on a weekend in late April or early May.
Flores is in his mid-50s. He’s hoping to see a lot of players who may be in their 70s, 80s and, perhaps, in their 90s, by now.
“The turnout would be enough players to fill four, maybe six teams of co-ed players and more extras so no one has to play more than one or two innings at a time,” Flores said. “I’m asking for sponsors from the Brighton area to help make this happen with a small donation. There were so many people on these leagues years ago that supported many Brighton businesses.”
