Thank you, Brighton shoppers and volunteers

Editor,

Thanks to dozens of volunteers and hundreds of generous shoppers, the Community Wide Food Drive on Saturday was a huge success. Volunteers greeted shoppers at the doors at King Soopers, Safeway, and Wal-Mart with a flyer describing the food drive to benefit three local food pantries, and the shoppers responded with approximately 4,000 pounds of non-perishable food and more than $1,000 in cash donations! United Power also donated more than 200 pounds of food that their employees collected in a food drive on Friday.

This food will help the food pantries provide supplemental food assistance to over 650 Brighton area families each month, families including senior citizens, children, and adults who may be struggling to make ends meet every month, or who may be experiencing a short term set-back. The cash donations will be used to purchase additional non-perishable food through Food Bank of the Rockies, where food pantries can buy certain kinds of foods at reduced prices.

On behalf of Brighton Shares The Harvest, I wish to express a sincere thank you to the Brighton area residents who donated their time to help with this food drive and those who shopped and donated food or cash to benefit the Calvary Chapel Food Pantry, His Hands Food Cupboard, and St. Augustine’s Community Food Pantry.
