Brighton captured the Skyline League relay title Friday afternoon in the Bulldogs’ pool.
Coach Elizabeth Sedalnick credited freshman Alyssa Petrocco with rallying the Bulldogs from behind to win the 200-yard backstroke relay. Lindsey Mercier, who spent part of Friday in the hospital, was able to participate in the league relays.
Senior Jessica Schoneman was part of four, first-place teams. Another senior, Kesley Shibao, was on three winning relays. Ellysha Siegwart, a sophomore, was on four winning teams, as was freshman Merrit Hays. Marie Makepeace, a sophomore, was on four, first-place relay teams. Junior Samantha Green helped three relay foursomes to first-place finishes.
Monarch beat Brighton 130-55 in a dual meet Monday afternoon in Brighton.
Shibao recorded Brighton’s only victory. It came in the 100-backstroke. BHS recorded 37 personal-best times.
“We lost to a very good team,” Sedalnick said. “We discussed that we can continue to swim teams that don’t pose a threat to us, or we can step up a level and challenge ourselves. It’s easy to swim against ourselves every meet and win. What will help us to the next level is to step up to it.”
