Fort Lupton rolls past the ThunderHawks

Posted

Behind some great pitching by Joe Boyle, who scattered eight hits, allowed only one run while dealing out seven strikeouts, plus hot hitting from Jake Bernhard and Eric Frazier and a host of others, the Fort Lupton Bluedevils dominated from outset to post an 11-1 victory over the Prairie View ThunderHawks Saturday morning.

The game was stopped after six innings because of the state’s mercy rule.

The Bluedevils scored in every inning, hammering Prairie View pitchers for 16 hits. The ThunderHawks got their only score in the third inning and struggled to advance runners.

Prairie View’s Dominic Cardenas struck out four Fort Lupton batters in his effort on the mound. After four innings, he was relieved by Josh Urdiales who went the last two innings allowing two runs and five hits while striking out one and walking one.  Sergio Guerrero was the lone run that crossed. Antonio Loera Jr was credited with the RBI.

The loss snapped a four-game Prairie View winning streak.

“We are 4-5 overall,” PVHS coach Matt Nylund said. “The team is starting to put hitting and pitching together. We are getting better as the season moves along.”

Prairie View’s next game is at Bishop Machebuf April 21. Tuesday’s game against Ridge View Academy was canceled.
