Disturbance at Platte Valley Medical Center

Posted

Police officers were called Oct. 12 to the Platte Valley Medical Center, 1600 Prairie Center Parkway, on a report of disturbance possibly involving a weapon.
A hospital ICU nurse told officers that a 58-year-old Fort Lupton man became upset about 2:50 a.m. after his wife, who was a patient, began screaming and tried to remove an IV from her arm. The man told nurses that he did not want anything done to his wife. Another staff member reported the man acted as if he was going to pull a knife from his waistband and threatened to “stick” one of the staff members.
The man told police he awoke to his wife screaming and he was upset and confused. He said he asked the nurse to stop working on his wife. He said he did not understand why hospital staffers became upset with him.
Hospital staff did not wish to pursue charges. They did ask the man to leave the hospital for the rest of the evening. The man first refused. An officer explained to the man that he understood he was dealing with the stress of the situation and, if he left on his own, he would not receive a summons. The man agreed to leave the hospital.
