U.S. veteran Dennis Thummel, 65, of Hoisington, Kan., and formerly of Brighton, died Sept. 1, 2010, at Country Place Assisted Living in Hoisington.
Dennis was born Sept. 2, 1944, to Walter Thummel and Eleanor Korte in Englewood. He was raised in Selden, Kan. Dennis served in the U.S. Navy. He later managed several co-op locations in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado. Dennis was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., St. Augustine Catholic Church in Brighton and the Lions Club. He married Shirley Packard July 20, 1965. Dennis enjoyed woodworking, yard work, boating and activities with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, of Brighton; son, Bill (Karen) Thummel, of Colby, Kan.; daughter, Shelley (Don) Gotchall, of Great Bend, Kan.; brothers, Wayne “Tom” Thummel, of Nashville, Ind., Steve (Glenda) Thummel, of Liberal, Kan., and Joe Thummel, of Altus, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister.
A memorial service was Sept. 7 at Sacred Heart Church in Selden. Inurnment followed at the Selden Cemetery.
