Adams County attempted murder suspect behind bars

PINEVILLE, Mo. – A 32-year-old man wanted in Adams County for attempted murder was arrested in southwest Missouri Sept. 16.
McDonald County sheriff’s officers and volunteers – about 100 in all, according to local media reports – arrested Jeremy J. McCauley Sept. 13 after a search that extended over parts of three days. The area is about 100 miles west of Branson, Mo., and about 360 miles southwest of St. Louis.

According to Adams County sheriff’s Sgt. Candi Baker, McCauley is wanted for three counts of criminal attempt first-degree murder, three counts of felony menacing and one count of unlawful discharge of a gun. The incident happened 20 months ago in the 7500 block of Broadway in the southern portion of Adams County.
Reports said the shooting began over a dispute about the use of a Dumpster. Deputies said one of the victims told the male suspect, later identified as McCauley, that he couldn’t use the trash receptacle because it was on private property. McCauley pulled a shotgun from an SUV and fired it into the air. The suspect walked toward the SUV, got in and turned onto Sherman Street. A blonde-haired woman was behind the wheel, deputies said.
The SUV left the parking lot at such a speed that trash flew out of the trailer. As the vehicle was going north on Sherman Street, McCauley, who was hanging out the window, pointed the gun at one of the victims and fired another shot. No one was hit.
According to the McDonald County Press, deputies pulled McCauley over Sept. 11 and found him using his brother’s name, date of birth and Social Security number. McCauley ran into a wooded area and apparently stayed there most of the weekend. Media reports said he returned to his girlfriend’s home about 3 a.m. Monday but got away from deputies who were at the home.
Later in the morning, the reports said a volunteer driving an all-terrain vehicle nearly ran over McCauley. The suspect was arrested without incident. He was in the McDonald County Jail at midweek awaiting a possible extradition hearing.

Missouri, McCauley
