A new ‘under’-sheriff in town

BRIGHTON – The new undersheriff in Adams County is Roger Engelsman. He started his new job March 3.

Engelsman is a 15-year veteran of the sheriff’s office. He came from the Northglenn Police Department, where he was a patrol officer and a detective during a 13-year stint.

In Adams County, the undersheriff is the chief operations officer for the department. Engelsman would take command of the department in case Sheriff Doug Darr is absent. He also will collaborate with elected and appointed federal, state and local officials. Engelsman also takes over supervision, training and evaluation of patrol, detective, jail and the administrative services division within the sheriff’s office.

Engelsman replaces Paul Siska, who retired at the end of February after 33 years in the department.

“As undersheriff, he will have many challenges ahead of him,” Darr said. “I am certain he will be able to handle each of them with a high level of competency and professionalism. We have worked together for some time now, and he has established himself as a skilled professional and an asset to Adams County. I know he will do a great job for the sheriff’s office and for the citizens of Adams County.”
