Legacy High School’s baseball team kept things exciting during their CHSAA 5A Baseball Championship, ultimately losing to rivals Broomfield June in final game for the championship trophy.
Legacy’s road to the Final Four came through the losers bracket. After dropping a 6-2 decision to Cherokee Trail on May 27, the Lightning got past Vista Ridge of Colorado Springs 5-3, and pounded Douglas County, 10-3 on May 28.
They went on to edge out Chaparral 4-3 June 3 before a second chance against Cherokee Trail June 4. The Lightning prevailed this time, beating the Cougars 9-8 and claiming a spot in the championship game later that afternoon against next-door rivals Broomfield.
Although it was a close game, it wasn’t meant to be for Legacy, as they lost 7-6.
