The sight of senseless death and sadness back in June of this year, was also the sight of light, faith and renewed hope on Nov. 28, thanks to the annual lighting of the menorah to mark the start of Hanukkah in Arvada.
Chabad of NW Metro Denver, which put on the event, described the menorah lighting location as “The site of June’s tragic shooting in Olde Town Arvada (June 21), that took the life of Arvada officer Gordon Beesley and good Samaritan Johnny Hurley will be transformed into a place of light and celebration commemorating the first night of Chanukah and remembering these two brave heroic men.”
The event was co-sponsored by the city of Arvada and included musical entertainment by Arvada High School, and the Merkava band. Traditional Hanukkah treats of chocolate coins, donuts, hot latkahs a Hanukkah gifts for children were also provided during the free community event.
